Who we are

The nonprofit sector is vastly undervalued. Despite employing over 10% of the American workforce across 1.6 million organizations, individual charitable giving has steadily declined in the internet age. Giving as a percentage of a person’s annual disposable income is now at a 40 year low, despite the number of organizations tripling in size over the same time period. Mission driven organizations are overworked and under-resourced, and most don’t have a way to grow organically. We’re building Collective to change that.

Taking inspiration from successful subscription platforms like Substack and Patreon, we believe mission-driven organizations are natural community builders, providing purpose and a sense of belonging to the supporters of their work. They need a platform designed specifically for cultivating recurring donors and achieving sustainable growth. Websites with lengthy donation forms and email lists just don’t cut it in a world driven by attention and mobile engagement.

Consider this: Most people would struggle to name even five of the thousands of nonprofits operating within 30 minutes of their home. This isn't because people don't care, or because nonprofits aren't doing important work. The challenge is visibility. While mission-driven organizations excel at creating engaging content and bringing people in to their missions, they lack the resources to boost their social media presence. Collective is building a platform where they won't have to.

What we’re looking for

We are currently looking for a Founding Engineer, which means you will be our first or second hire and report direct to our founder/CEO. Your primary responsibility will be to execute on all things product development, across a full engineering and data stack.

Technical Product Strategy and Vision

• Collaborate closely with the Founder and CEO to define and articulate platform architecture, product roadmap, and overall technical vision.
• Co-own technical product details, implementation decisions, frameworks, and processes.

Design Implementation

• Passion for building stunning visuals and differentiated experiences for the modern mobile consumer.
• Analyze user interaction and assessment data to make informed decisions for product improvements.

Product Engineering

• Lead the agile development of our platform, including backend software development, API development, frontend development, and third party integrations.
• Rely on AI tools to build efficiently.
• Implement infrastructure best practices for scalability, security, and data privacy.
